A wanted Tennessee man is behind bars and awaiting extradition after being arrested early Thursday morning by the Newton County Sheriff’s Department in Newton.
According to a press release by Newton County Sheriff Joedy Pennington, his department was contacted by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department on Monday, Aug. 18, because they had reason to believe that Amir Collins was located in the vicinity of the city of Newton. Collins is wanted in Shelby County for charges of aggravated assault, aggravated robbery, and aggravated kidnapping.
At 12:30 Thursday morning, the Newton County Sheriff Department/SRT and Newton Police Department executed a search warrant at 211 New Ireland Street in Newton. After making entry into the residence, SRT located Collins and he was taken into custody on Shelby County warrants.
