Toys for Tots Registration Open Now
Registration for Toys for Tots is now open at Afternoon Adventure Learning Center, located at 306 North Main Street in Newton. Kids 0-12 can participate. Registration will be open until Nov. 30. Toys will be given out on December 21.
To register, come by Afternoon Adventure Learning Center Monday-Friday, between 3:30-4:30 p.m. You must show a photo I.D., birth certificate and social security card of each child, and a proof of residence.

Project Backpack Donations at the Newton County Extension Office
The Backpack Project is a community service project donating new or gently used backpacks filled with toiletries and other items to individuals living in community-based residential housing.
The Newton County MSU Extension Office is currently asking for toiletries donations to fill a large donation of backpacks that has been received. Filled backpacks will be accepted, as well.
We ask that you please sanitize prior to drop-off, which is at the Extension Office located at 65 7th Street in Decatur, between the hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Monday-Friday.

Union Christmas Tree Lighting, Christmas Story, and Music
The City of Union will hold their Christmas Tree Lighting, the reading of the Christmas Story, and Music on December 1.
Toys for Tots Toy Drive at ECCC
The U.S. Marines, partnered with ECCC Career and Technical Education, are hosting a Toys for Tots Toy Drive, where toys can be dropped off at several locations on the ECCC campus: Bradford J. Tucker Applied Technology Center, Career Annex Building, Daycare Center, Office of Enrollment Management, Healthcare Education, Communication Office-Newton Hall, and Success Center-Burton Library. The toy drop-off deadline is Dec. 3.
The Newton Chamber of Commerce “A Merry Newton Christmas”
Join us for a festive Christmas season in Newton! The Newton Christmas Tree Lighting and Parade is scheduled for Dec. 5 at 5 p.m., followed by a Christmas Celebration after the parade. Visit the Historic McElroy-Hoye House for our Tour of Trees on Dec. 7, from 5-7 p.m.
Christmas in Decatur
It’s almost time for Christmas celebrations to being in Decatur! Make sure to mark your calendars for the upcoming events: The Decatur Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting is scheduled for Dec. 6 at 6 p.m., and Christmas Around the Courthouse is scheduled for Dec. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Town of Hickory Christmas Parade
The Hickory Christmas Parade will be on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. There are no charges or forms required to take part in the parade. If you’d like to join the parade, be there for lineup at 1 p.m.
Newton County 4-H Shooting Sports Interest Meeting
Parents who wish to get their children involved in 4-H competitive target shooting are invited to attend an Interest Meeting on Dec. 10 at the Coastal Plains Research Station in Newton at 6 p.m. The Coastal Plains Research Station is located at 51 Coastal Plains Road in Newton.
Decatur Christmas Decorating Contest
Christmas time is near, and we want our town to get in the Christmas Spirit. The Decatur Woman’s Progressive Club is once again holding a Christmas Lights Competition for residents and businesses inside the city limits of Decatur. This is the perfect time to showcase your creativity and earn the bragging rights! Judging will take place on Dec. 12-14. Categories will be Business and Residential, with cash prizes for 1st-3rd place in both categories. Judging will take place on Dec. 12-14, and winners will be announced on Dec. 16. So come on Decatur, let’s make our town shine!
Sock Drive for Local Senior Adults
The Newton Chamber of Commerce is Slipping into the Holidays by hosting a Sock Drive for Local Senior Adults. From Oct 3-Dec. 12, Donators can drop off their sock at the Chamber Office, located at 128 South Main Street in Newton. All donations will be distributed to congregate residents.
Union Christmas Parade
The Union Christmas Parade is scheduled for Dec. 14 at 5:30 p.m. Entry deadline is Dec. 1. To enter the parade, visit the Union Chamber of Commerce, Mississippi Facebook page and click the 2024 Union Christmas Parade Google Docs link.
Collinsville Christmas 2024: A Full Day of Festive Fun
The Collinsville Christmas Association invites everyone to Collinsville Christmas 2024 on Saturday, Dec. 14! The day begins with Breakfast with Santa from 8-10 a.m. at the Collinsville Fire & Rescue station. Tickets are available for purchase at bit.ly/CollinsvilleSantaBreakfast2024.
The day continues with the Holiday Market from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., where shoppers can browse for gifts and support local artisans at our Holiday Market. This outdoor market will be filled with vendor booths lining the access road from Collinsville Community Club to Collinsville Fire & Rescue. Vendors and food trucks interested in participating can contact Pam Grice at 601-490-0876 for more information as space is limited; booths are $25.
There will also be a Kids Zone and Touch-a-Truck from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., where kids can enjoy a variety of free activities, including petting animals, exploring big trucks, emergency vehicles, and other impressive equipment. Explorer Acres will be set up between Collinsville Community Club and Plus 4 Creations, while the Touch-a-Truck display will be located in front of Collinsville Auto & Truck Parts.
The day ends with the Collinsville Christmas Parade at 6 p.m. This year’s parade theme is “Light of the World”. The parade begins at 6:00 pm, and parade entries are open for $20 at bit.ly/CollinsvilleParade2024 or by submitting a paper entry at The Citizens Bank of Philadelphia’s Collinsville Branch. An online copy of the parade route is also available on the Collinsville Christmas Association Facebook page.
