Newton County Academy got in three games this past week, winning two of them against district opponents.
NCA swept two games from Columbus Christian, winning 14-2 on Tuesday and 9-8 on Thursday.
The Generals lost on Monday, falling 11-1 to rival Sylva Bay.
NCA will return to play this week as they travel to Kemper Academy on Tuesday and will host Hebron Christian on Thursday. They will finish the week on Saturday by hosting Sylva Bay.
NCA 9, Columbus Chr. 8
The Generals scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on to take a one-run win over the Rams on Thursday.
Columbus scored one in the first while NCA answered with six runs in the second. Columbus answered with three runs in the third and four in the fourth to lead 8-6. NCA added one run in the fourth to cut the score to 8-7 and then two in the sixth.
Columbus outhit NCA 8-4 in the contest. Jax Porter singled and scored three runs while Lee Hollingsworth doubled and drove in four runs. Austin Upton doubled and drove in one run. Braxton Kelly and Micah Garrison each walked twice.
Jax Porter started and pitched two innings, giving up four runs on one hit and four walks while striking out five. Hollingsworth pitched five innings and gave up four unearned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out eight.
NCA 14, Columbus Chr. 2
The Generals banged out 14 hits and took a five-inning, run-rule win over the Rams on Tuesday.
NCA scored four runs in the first and followed with five runs in the second and third. Columbus scored its two runs in the fifth inning.
NCA had 14 hits as Micah Garrison was 2-for-2 with a double and four RBIs. Logan Smith was also 2-for-2 and drove in four runs. Jax Porter was 2-for-5 with a double while Austin Upton was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Lee Hollingsworth was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Garrett Loper was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Braxton Kelly singled and scored three runs while Ty Thrash, Ryan Moore and Conner Clark each scored two runs.
Upton started on the mound and pitched all five innings, giving up two runs on two hits and four walks while striking out six.
Sylva Bay 11, NCA 1
The Saints scored nine runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a five-inning, run-rule win over the Generals on Monday.
Sylva Bay scored one in the first and third to lead 2-0. NCA scored one in the top of the fifth before Sylva Bay scored nine in the fifth.
Sylva Bay outhit NCA 8-4. Braxton Kelly singled and drove in a run while Austin Upton, Leyton Porter and Lee Hollingsworth each had singles. Garrett Loper scored NCA’s only run.
Five pitchers threw for NCA as Jax Porter, Hollingsworth, Micah Garrison, Leyton Porter and Logan Smith all threw for the Generals.
