The Newton County Academy baseball team warmed up for the 3A playoffs with two games last week.
NCA beat Prentiss Christian 12-9 on Monday and then beat Jackson Victors 13-8 on Friday to end the regular season.
NCA improves to 12-9 on the season and finish third in district play. They will take on Porter’s Chapel in first-round play. Game 1 of the series will be Tuesday in Decatur while Games 2 and 3 will be in Vicksburg starting at 5 p.m. with an if-necessary game to follow.

Hitting: NCA had 10 hits in the contest as Logan Heidelberg was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs while Ty Thrash was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Tyler Burt was 2-for-3 with a double while Jackson Bunyard was 2-for-4. Marshall Wright scored three runs and had two RBIs while Vitaly Ferguson singled and drove in two runs.
Pitching: Bunyard started on the mound and pitched three innings, giving up four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three. Heidelberg pitched one inning and gave up three runs as he hit three batters and walked one. Logan Hitt pitched two innings and scattered one hit and two walks while striking out four. Harrison Wall pitched the final inning and gave up two runs on three walks while striking out two.

Hitting: NCA banged out 12 hits with four multiple hitters. Marshall Wright was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Ty Thrash was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs while Logan Heidelberg was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Steven Duke was 2-for-4 with a double while Taylor Burt singled, walked three times and scored three runs. Cooper Savell also singled and drove in two runs.
Pitching: Logan Hitt started and pitched two innings and gave up one run on one hit and three walks while striking out two. Jackson Bunyard pitched one inning and gave up four runs on two hits and four walks while striking out three. Savell pitched two innings and got the win, giving up two hits and one walk while striking out four. Marshall Wright was credited with the save, pitching two innings and giving up three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four.
