The Newton County Lady Cougars improved to 6-3 on the season as they won two games last week.
The Lady Cougars shut down Kosciusko 43-13 on Tuesday and then beat Southeast Lauderdale on Friday.
The Cougars lost both contests as they fell 100-65 to Kosciusko and 64-46 to Southeast Lauderdale.
Newton County only has one game scheduled for this week, a Monday contest at Scott Central. They will return to action on Monday, Dec. 22 as they play at Kemper County and will then play at Neshoba Central on Monday, Dec. 29.
Newton County girls 43, Kosciusko 13
The Lady Cougars held the Lady Whippets to three points in the second half as they cruised to a 30-point win.
Newton County had little trouble in the first half as they raced out to a 23-10 lead. They only continued to extend that lead as they outscored the Lady Whippets 20-3 in the second half to take the win.
Felicia King led Newton County with 14 points while Nalayah Phillips had 11 points. Dazlie Tubby had seven points while Shae Jimmie had six points.
Kosciusko boys 100, Newton County 65
The Whippets used an explosive offense to take a 35-point win over the Lady Cougars.
The Whippets dominated in the first half as they outscored the Cougars 23-11 in the first and 23-14 in the second period to lead 46-25 at the half. They Whippets continued to extend their lead in the second half, outscoring Newton County 25-20 in the third and 29-20 in the fourth period.
Rafael Cervantes led Newton County with 13 points.
Newton County girls 47, Southeast Lauderdale 30
The Lady Cougars outscored the Lady Tigers in each of the first three periods to take a 17-point win.
Newton County outscored Southeast 14-9 in the first period and 13-6 in the second to take a 27-15 lead at the half. County then outscored Southeast 10-5 in the third to take a 37-20 lead into the fourth. Each team scored 10 points in the fourth for the final margin.
Dazlie Tubby led Newton County with 11 points while Nalayah Phillips had 10 points. Felicia King had nine points while Anayah Wesley and Daylon Avery each had six points.
Southeast Lauderdale boys 64, Newton County 46
The Tigers pulled away in the second half and took an 18-point win over the Cougars.
Each team scored 14 points in the first period while Southeast outscored County 11-7 in the second to lead 25-21 at the half. Southeast continued to extend its lead in the second half, outscoring County 17-9 in the third and 22-16 in the fourth to take the win.
Lorenzoe Gardner led Newton County with 23 points while Byron Pruitt had 12 points.
