The Newton County girls continued their strong play as they added three more wins to their total last week.
The Lady Cougars beat Union 37-17, Scott Central 53-36 and Southeast Lauderdale 35-20.
The Cougars won two out of three as they beat Union 67-25 and Scott Central 50-35. They lost to Southeast Lauderdale 51-47.
Newton County was scheduled to play in the East Central Tournament this week and then finish the week at Canton.
Newton County girls 37, Union 17
The Lady Yellowjackets struggled from the field and dropped a 20-point decision to the Lady Cougars on Monday.
County led 13-0 at the end of the first and 24-6 at the half. Union took the third period 3-2 while County outscored the Lady Yellowjackets 11-8 in the fourth.
Felisia King led Newton County with 14 points while Dazlie Tubby had nine points. Anayah Wansley also chipped in eight points.
Elle Killen led Union with 11 points.
Newton County boys 67, Union 25
The Cougars outscored the Yellowjackets in every period and took a 42-point win.
County led 22-10 at the end of the first and 38-18 at the half. County then outscored Union 20-6 in the third and led 58-24 going to the fourth. County took the fourth period 9-1 for the final margin.
Keaton Gray led Newton County with 18 points while Jayce Beal had 14 points. Jaylon Torgusson also added nine points for County.
Aiden Davis led Union with 10 points while Chance Harmon had eight points.
Newton County girls 53, Scott Central 36
The Lady Cougars pulled away in the second half and took a 17-point win over the Rebels.
Each team scored nine points in the first quarter while County outscored Scott Central 13-10 in the second to lead 22-19 at the half. County pulled away in the second half by outscoring Scott Central 19-9 in the third and 12-8 in the fourth.
Felisia King led County with 17 points while Dazlie Tubby had 15 points. Anayah Wesley had 11 points and Shae Jimmie had eight points.
Newton County boys 50, Scott Central 35
The Cougars took three of the four periods to take a 15-point win over the Rebels.
County jumped out to a 16-9 lead in the first and then 14-8 in the second to lead 30-17 at the half. Scott Central took the third period 12-11 while County finished by taking the fourth 9-6.
Keaton Gray led County in scoring with 21 points while Jaylen Torgusson had nine points.
Newton County girls 35, Southeast Lauderdale 20
The Lady Cougars used a stingy defense to take a 15-point win over the Lady Tigers.
County led 5-4 at the end of the first and then outscored Southeast 13-2 in the second to lead 18-6 at the half. County took the third period 9-6 while each team scored eight points in the fourth.
Felisia King led County with 14 points while Dazlie Tubby had nine points.
Southeast Lauderdale boys 51, Newton County 47
The Cougars made a furious fourth period comeback but fell short in a four-point loss.
Southeast led 14-7 at the end of the first and 22-16 at the half. Southeast outscored County 18-10 in the third to lead 40-26 going to the fourth. County rallied in the fourth and outscored Southeast 21-11 but fell short.
Jaylen Torgusson led County with 19 points while Keaton Gray had 16 points.
