The Newton basketball teams swept a pair of games from two former division rivals.
The Lady Tigers beat Kemper County 43-40 on Tuesday and then beat Philadelphia 43-40 on Friday.
The Tigers hammered Kemper County 77-49 and then held on to take a 39-31 win over Philadelphia.
Newton is scheduled to play at Kemper County on Tuesday and will then host Southeast Lauderdale on Friday.
Newton boys 39, Philadelphia 31
The Tigers outscored the Tornadoes in three of the fourth periods to take an eight-point win.
Newton outscored Philly 12-10 in the first but the Tornadoes took the second period 5-2 to take a 15-14 lead at the half. But the Tigers fought back and outscored the Tornadoes 16-12 in the third and 9-5 in the fourth to take the win.
De’Traun Brown led Newton with 10 points while Antoine Griffin had seven points. Daelyn Chapman also had six points.
Newton girls 46, Philadelphia 33
The Lady Tigers took an early lead and cruised to a 13-point win over the Lady Tornadoes on Friday.
Newton outscored Philly 14-5 in the first period and 10-2 in the second to lead 24-7 at the half. Philly took the third period 15-10 to cut the lead to 34-22 going to the fourth. Newton took the fourth 12-1 for the final margin.
Jamiya Jones led Newton with 17 points while Akyrin Berry and Anniston Adkins each had six points.
Newton boys 77, Kemper County 49
The Tigers dominated the first two periods and cruised to a 28-point win.
Newton outscored Kemper 18-9 in the first period and 20-9 in the second to take a 38-18 lead at the half. The Tigers extended the lead in the third period and outscored the Wildcats 19-9 in the third to take a 57-27 lead into the fourth. Kemper took the fourth period 22-20 for the final margin.
Daelyn Chapman led Newton with 16 points while Jamarque Holder had 15 points. De’Traun Brown had nine points while Jimare Kincaid had seven points.
Newton girls 43, Kemper County 40
The Lady Tigers held off a late charge from the Lady Wildcats and took a three-point win.
Newton jumped out to a 15-5 lead in the first period and then led 22-14 at the half. The Lady Tigers extended the lead in the third period and outscored the Lady Wildcats 13-10 to lead 35-24 going to the fourth. Kemper outscored Newton 16-8 in the fourth for the final margin.
Jamiya Jones led Newton with 18 points while Jordyn Bolar had eight points. Erin Ware had six points while Anniston Adkins chipped in five points.
