New Year’s Day means one thing to me, and that’s usually a smorgasbord of college football games.
This New Year’s was no different. Games started at 11 a.m. and didn’t finish up until 11 p.m. It started with LSU defeating Wisconsin. Then Tennessee shut down Iowa.
On the Saturday before the New Year, Ole Miss got an impressive Peach Bowl win over traditional power Penn State.
The bowl game was not kind to the Auburn Tigers on New Year’s Eve Eve, but I was happy to see the results of the CFP Semifinals. Michigan and Washington have been the most consistent teams in college football in 2023, and it’s fitting for me to see those two teams battle it out for the national championship.
Have to give credit to SEC Champion Alabama for their great season. Many including myself doubted them time and time again. I thought they’d pull through again, but it wasn’t to be. This might have been Nick Saban’s best coaching job while at Alabama, taking them to the playoff despite not being the same talented team we’re used to seeing at Alabama. In the end, Michigan, which had to overcome a number of self-inflicted wounds, had too much for the Tide.
Texas also put up a good fight, but Washington was too much.
I can’t wait to see the championship game, and the winner will be the undisputed champ.
