Two weeks ago today, I like everyone, had a perfect bracket. No one had lost. Hope sprung eternal.
Today, my bracket is on its way to be weighed at the Newton County landfill. I know I’m usually not that great at picking the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, but this year isn’t the worst year I’ve ever had, but it’s pretty close.
Just to tell you how bad it is, I usually get at least two Final Four teams right every year. This year, I’m only going to get one, and that’s Gonzaga. I saw a few upsets brewing, but the chalk that’s been happening in the Sweet Sixteen (minus Alabama losing) and Elite Eight is killing my bracket.
At the beginning of the tournament, I tell myself that I always pick it to see what I don’t know, and this year, that was a lot. My only saving grace was having South Carolina upsetting Duke and making it to the Elite Eight, but even then I underestimated their Cinderella run.
Well, everybody has bragging rights on me this year, but I’ll be back next year. I may not win it, but I’ll certainly make you sweat it out.
