I am not a Mississippi State fan, but I am so happy for the Bulldog baseball team finally help the university break through and win its first national championship.
That’s not just the first national championship in the baseball program history, but it’s the first team national championship in any sport, men’s or women’s.
While I have been here, I’ve seen Mississippi State come close to a championship. I’ve seen them knock off UConn in the women’s Final Four only to lose to South Carolina in the finals.
The baseball team has been to Omaha three straight years. Each of the two previous teams might have been better positioned to win it all than this year.
However, this pack of dogs were able to do it.
I know many of you have told me that you don’t know how to react right now. I can understand. It was probably the same feeling I felt when Auburn won it all in 2010 in football. I’d never seen it in my lifetime. It had been over 50 years since Auburn had done it. They had some close calls, but they never broke free until that season.
But this is different. The first time you win one like this, it’s just different. They’ll always be remembered as the first. They will likely win more and in other sports, but this group will always have a special place in MSU history.
Congratulations! Hail State!
