The year 2023 has gotten off to a difficult start here in Newton County.
The death of Newton High School senior Marquise Poole has hit our area hard. From all indications, it appears like a freak accident. I don’t want to speculate what happened because I don’t know.
However from my own experience of having a serious car crash last year, I know how things can change so quickly. My thoughts and prayers to out to Chafony and Marquiose and their family as they are trying to process everything.
I’ve gotten to know Chafony well serving on the Newton Chamber of Commerce board of directors. I know they are some of the best people that you could know. I covered Marquise with sports. I know he has been in the paper numerous times. He was on the honor roll probably every time we’re run a Newton honor roll.
He’s received a lot of academic awards and honors. He was even getting ready to continue his journey in life at college. He wanted to get a track scholarship so he could further his education.
We don’t know why things like this happen or why God would allow those things to occur. I don’t have any answers.
But if you need anything from me, please let me know. We’ll be praying for you.
