The Newton County Sheriff’s Office and Mississippi Department of Narcotics has arrested two suspects in connection with the search of a Stratton area residence in which a large amount of drugs were seized.
According to Sheriff Joedy Pennington, LaJason “Jrock” Jones, 42, and Lahoma Hawkins, 36, both of 3775 Stratton Road in Union were arrested Feb. 10. Jones was charged with three counts of sale of a controlled substance, child endangerment and drug trafficking and had his bond denied. Hawkins was charged with child endangerment and was given a bond of $10,000.
Pennington said the charges stem from a three-month long investigation. On Feb. 10, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, the Newton County Special Response Team and MBN executed a search warrant at the residence.
“After securing and searching the house, Deputies and Agents found a large amount of methamphetamine,” Pennington said.
Pennington said they also located a 13-month-old child living at the residence. The child was released to the custody of family members.
