The Newton Police Department is investigating another incident on Pine Street in which a vehicle was struck by gunfire around 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Chief Randy Patrick said a Honda Civic that was riding through Pine Street when it was struck by multiple rounds of gunfire. He said the occupants of the vehicle were not injured in the incident.
“Right now, we’ve been collecting shell casings and gathering evidence from the scene,” Patrick said. “We are working with Crimestoppers to get assistance on finding the suspect.”
No persons have been taken into custody at this time. Patrick said his officers were assisted by the Newton County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident occurred less than 24 hours after the Newton Board of Mayor and Aldermen held its regular February meeting where a large group of residents raised questions about safety. Resident David Pitts mentioned during the meeting that there had been 38 gunfire/shooting incidents since September 2022.
