The Newton Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved the Martin Luther King Jr. Day event planned for Ray Payne Park in Newton presented by the Friends for Unity of Newton, MS, during the board's regular meeting on Jan. 4.
The title of the event is “Remembering the Late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Awareness Program.”
It is scheduled for January 17 at 4 p.m. The Rev. Horatio Wilson, Pastor of Pleasant Grove M.B. Church, will be the guest speaker.
Event organizer Eva McDonald is asking residents to support needy citizens by donating canned goods and none perishable items at the event. The public is invited to attend this program.
