Newton County Soil and Water Conservation District Wildlife Expo
The Newton County Soil and Water Conversation District will have their Wildlife Expo on October 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hut in Decatur. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., there will be a meal of fish, fries, hushpuppies, coleslaw, a dessert, and drink offered for $15 a plate.
The program will be Wild Turkeys and a speaker from the MS Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. There will also be door prizes, a silent auction, and a raffle drawing. All proceeds will go to the support of educational conservation projects, youth camp, field days, poster content, and community outreach. The American Legion Hut is located on Highway 15 South in Decatur.
Craft Fair at the McElroy-Hoye House
You are invited to a Craft Fair at the Historic McElroy-Hoye House on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Admission is free. Building Dedication Ceremony at Union High School
Please join us for a Building Dedication Ceremony for The Max Sessums Gymnasium and The Greg Page Band Hall on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. in the Foyer of the Gymnasium at Union High School.
2024-25 ECCC Warrior Basketball Tip-Off Banquet
East Central Community College will host the 2024-25 Warrior Basketball Tip-Off Banquet on Monday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. at Brackeen-Wood Gym. Tickets are $25 per person or $150 per table. RSVP deadline is Thursday, Oct. 17. To purchase tickets, go to www.ecccathletics.com and scan the QR code.
PHI Air Medical Municipality Program Upgrade Enrollment in Newton
A representative with PHI Air Medical Services will be at the Newton City Hall on Monday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., to answer questions and enroll residents into their Municipality Program Upgrade. The upgrade is $30 per household a year and safeguards the resident from any out-of-pocket expenses if they require air medical transportation within the coverage area.
Community Conversations Event at the Newton County Career and Technical Center
The public is invited to a Community Conversations event at the Newton County Career and Technical Center on Tuesday, Oct. 22, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Newton County School District, Tours of Phase II of the facility will be available and the new Strategic Plan for the district will be released. The Mississippi Rural Housing Authority V will host Treat Street at 298 Northside Drive in Newton on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be food trucks, treats, games, and more! Entrance is free. Tickets are available to purchase for games.
Newton County School District “A” Rating Pep Rally Celebration
On Monday, Oct. 28, at 9:30 a.m., the Newton County School District invites the public to Cougar Stadium for a district-wide Pep Rally Celebration of each school in the NCSD receiving an “A” Rating for the 2023-2024 Accountability Rankings. Decatur Treat Street
Bring your family to join in the fun at Decatur Treat Street on Monday, Oct. 28, from 5:30-7 p.m. The fun will begin on Broad Street in Downtown Decatur and continue to ECCC’s Campus. There will be candy, games, activities, and food trucks.
Haunted Experience hosted by the ECCC Fine Arts Department
You’re invited to bring the family for an evening of thrills, chills, and plenty of laughs—nothing too scary, just the right amount of spooky fun as the East Central Community College Fine Arts Department will host a circus-themed Haunted Experience on Oct. 28 and 29, from 5:30-8 p.m. on both nights, at the Vickers Fine Arts Building.
The Experience will include Halloween Favorites and Entertainment, a Haunted Maze, and Performances by the Ghoulish Cast & Their Monsters. The Haunted Experience will be perfect for all ages! Cost of admission will be $5, while ages 5 and under will be $2.
Holiday Decor Donations Requested in Newton
Updating or cleaning out your holiday décor? The Newton Chamber of Commerce and Newton Historical Commission is teaming up to bring something special to our area and are in need of Christmas trees, wreaths, garlands, and lights.
Donations of items may be dropped off at the Newton Chamber Office during business hours of 8 a.m.-3 p.m. (Monday-Friday). We ask that all donations are in good and useable condition, please!
