The Liberty Community Club met on Sept. 13 at the clubhouse. Mike Dearing, president, opened the meeting with The Pledge of Allegiance and Wanda Dearing blessed the food. A delicious Southern buffet dinner was served by Gerald and Joan Goodin. Ruby Boutwell gave a devotion from Phillipians 4:3-4 concerning talk to Jesus and trust in Him. Our prayer list includes: Ronnie Seale, Morgan Carroll, Brian Mann, Judson Bounds, and the families of Bonnie Simmons, Kay Maske, and Greene Boutwell.
Mike introduced Nena Hammond, executive director of the Newton Chamber of Commerce. Nena discussed several projects including: the Newton Beautification Project, Halloween on Oct. 30, Christmas parade and tree lighting, and hopefully Loose Caboose in April. The Beautification Project has just begun and is being assisted by the city and several businesses in helping with maintenance. There will be a Facebook page for more information.
We had 24 members present. Our next meeting was Monday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. for a potluck supper served by Glenda Darley and Wanda Dearing. Our speaker will be Asher Diehl, Newton County Veteran Services Officer. Don't forget your Halloween candy for the Chamber of Commerce. We are donating to the Purse Project in November with the MS Extension Service office in Decatur. They have asked us to use tote bags or backpacks instead of purses. Do not forget our annual stew in November with Marion Felton and friends. Hope to see you there with your friends and neighbors.
