A toy drive sponsored by the Mississippi Central State Troopers Coalition, Fly Gyz, Total Transportation and Walmart was held Sunday, Dec. 19 in front of Fly Gyz in downtown Newton.
Cars lined up on North Main Street from La-Z-Boy side to get in line. It wrapped around to as far as the La-Z-Boy entrances on Scanlan Street.
James Gunter with the state troopers coalition said each car will receive one toy per child.
“This is something that we do every year, and we have the blessings of the Mississippi Highway Patrol to put this on every year,” Gunter said. “It’s a way to make sure that each child can get at least one toy for Christmas each year.”
They were expecting to give away around 1,000 toys today.
Billy Wright, owner of Fly Gyz, said this is a way to give back.
“We’ve partnered with them before, and this is something that we wanted to bring to Newton to help give back to the community,” Wright said.
