A bridge is closing just over the Lauderdale County line in Meehan could affect some travelers that use Hwy. 80 to go from Chunky to Meridian.
According to Mississippi Department of Transportation spokesman Michael Flood, crews will replace end walls on the Tallahatta Creek bridge. It is located on Hwy. 80 between Chunky and Meridian in Lauderdale County.
The bridge will close beginning at 6 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, and it is expected to remain closed until Aug. 17. Traffic is being detoured onto I-20 at the Meehan Junction and Chunky exits.
Joyce Reynolds with the Chunky River Recreation and Trading Post said she doesn’t think it will affect most of the local traffic.
“I know everyone has been asking me which bridge that is since they put the signs up a few weeks ago,” Reynolds said “It’s not any of the bridges nearby our place, but it’s down by the little store in Meehan. I don’t think it will cause too many problems. Basically, the only way to get around it is on I-20.”
