NHS Athletic Booster ‘Big Blue BBQ’
The Newton High School Athletic Booster is sponsoring the ‘Big Blue BBQ’ on October 12, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Ray Payne Park in Newton. They will be selling BBQ plates for $10 per plate, consisting of chicken, two sides, cake, and a drink. Plates will also be sold at the football game.
T-Bones Gospelooza 1st Annual Arts and Music Festival
T-Bones Steakhouse in Union will be hosting their 1st Annual Gospelooza Arts and Music Festival on October 14 from 2-9 p.m. Free entry and candy for the kids! There will be delicious food, arts and crafts, live music, holy sock puppets, ministry fair, and guest speakers. With worship by: Given Grace, Sandtown Church Praise Team, and the Between the Banks Band.

October Meeting of the Newton County Historical and Genealogical Society
What is it? Where is it? Who is responsible for putting it there? Think you know?
Ricky Harrison will reveal some of the answers on Oct. 14 at the Newton County Historical and Genealogical Meeting, beginning at 10 a.m. at the same meeting place on Highway 15, across the highway from Dollar General in Decaur.
Members can pick up your latest edition of The Remembering after the meeting. If your copy is not picked up at the meeting, drop by the Archives office during hours and pick one up.
143rd Bailey Family Reunion
The Annual Bailey Family Reunion will be held Saturday, Oct. 14, beginning at 11 a.m. at Salem Cumberland Presbyterian Church near Sebastopol.
Union Public School District Notice of Meeting Date Change
The public is hereby given notice that the school board meeting regularly scheduled for Monday, Oct. 16, 2023 will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023, at 6 p.m.

2023 Christmas Craft Fair at the McElroy-Hoye House
The Historic McElroy-Hoye House will host their 2023 Christmas Craft Fair on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free. There will be concessions, specialty coffees, desserts, salads, and more.

MS Regional Housing Authority V to host Halloween Treat Street
You are invited to Halloween Treat Street at the Mississippi Regional Housing Authority V, located at 298 Northside Drive in Newton on Thursday, Oct. 26, from 5-7 p.m. There will be Food Trucks, Treats, Games, Face Painting, and more! Tickets and armbands are available for purchase.
NMSD Hosts Walking for a Cause
The Newton Municipal School District invite all scholars, teachers, staff, parents, and community to walk for a cure for cancer on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 9 a.m.
Halloween Sweet Station at the Historic Newton Depot
Come and join the fun at the Sweet Station, located at the Historic Newton Depot on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 3-5 p.m. There will be entertainment by LA Dance and local businesses will be handing out candy in the parking lot.
Newton County Soil and Water Wildlife Expo
The Newton County Soil and Water Conversation District invites you to their Wildlife Expo at the American Legion Hut on November 2. The event is free to attend!
The program will be Pond Management and the Speaker will be Russell Singleton, who is a Wildlife Biologist. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m.
A meal will be offered for $15 per plate, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The meal will consist of Fish or Chicken, Fries, Hushpuppies, Corn Fritters, Cole Slaw, dessert, and a drink.
There will also be door prizes, a silent auction and a raffle drawing.
The American Legion Hut is located at Highway 15 South in Decatur.
6th Annual Hickory Pick’N Day
Come to Hickory Pick’N Day at Hickory Pick’N on Nov. 4, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be over 100 indoor and outdoor vendors, political speaking, a talent show, food vendors, and a canned goods drive to donate to the Hickory Food Pantry.
