Newton County High School “Salute To The Brave” Pregame Ceremony
In the spirit of gratitude, Newton County High School invites local first responders and military to be our guests at the annual “Salute to the Brave” pregame ceremony at Cougar Stadium on September 13. Admission is free with valid identification of service. Game time is at 7 p.m. with the pre-game ceremony starting at 6:30 p.m. Service men and women are invited to meet on the track at 6:20 p.m. to participate in the “Parade of Heroes”.
Union High School Class Of ‘64 Reunion
The UHS Class of 1964 will celebrate its 55th year class reunion on September 14, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Back Forty Restaurant in Lake. Any class member or interested party that has not ben contacted, please call P.J. Henry at 601-774-8795.
Corvette Club to Showcase Cars at Gulf Coast Expo
The Northshore Corvette Club will sponsor an all-Corvette display at the 2019 Gulf Coast Sportsmen and Outdoor Expo, to be held September 13-15 at the Northshore Harbor Center in Slidell, Louisiana. The display is open to all car clubs and will feature 50 Corvettes each day between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Admission to the display is $20. For additional information, go to https://gulfcoastsports.com.
Town Of Hickory Chamber Of Commerce Banquet

MSU Newton County Extension Celebrates 50 Years of EFNEP
Newton County Extension is holding an event on October 8 to recognize a community nutrition education program that helps limited-resource families eat healthier, be more physically active and improve health. Everyone is invited to attend from 2-4 p.m. at the Newton County Extension, located at 65 Seventh Street in Decatur. The event will include a food demonstration, tasting, nutrition displays, and a display of the 50th EFNEP Anniversary Proclamation.
Chunky Volunteer Fire Department Vendors Fair
The Chunky Volunteer Fire Department will be having a Vendors Fair on October 12 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Chunky Baseball Field. The Town of Chunky will also be having a town-wide yard sale this day. We invite everyone out to a day of fun and entertainment. Anybody that wants a booth space or to entertain can contact any Fire Department member or go to the Chunky Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page and message us. Chunky River Recreation Bluegrass Gospel Singing And Cornhole Tournament
Chunky River Recreation, located at 24055 Highway 80 in Chunky, will be hosting a Bluegrass Gospel Singing and Cornhole Tournament on Saturday, October 19. The singing begins at 11 a.m. and will feature Alan Sibley and the Magnolia Ramblers, Answered Prayer Gospel Band, and Pilgrim Family Bluegrass Band. The Second Annual “Boss” Toss Cornhole Tournament begins at 3 p.m., after the singing. The cost per team is $10. There will be First and Second place prizes and trophies awarded. Hope Missions Newton Store is soliciting volunteers to assist with merchandise cleanup, stocking, sorting, cleaning, organizing and even building projects.
