Effective Monday, May 5, Brooke Sibley, the Assistant Superintendent of the Newton County School District for the past nine months, transitioned into her new position as Superintendent of Education of the district. The decision to make the move from the original start date of July 1st, was discussed and approved by the Board of Trustees in April.
NCSD Board President Josh Sanders offered comments upon today’s announcement, “Ms. Sibley’s commitment to ensuring every student receives the best education reflects her dedication to the community. It’s promising to see a leader prioritize the needs of students and work collaboratively with families to build on past successes and move the district forward.”
Ms. Sibley reiterates her first comments when she was originally appointed for the July 1st start date. “I am humbled by the trust and confidence that the NCSD Board has placed in me. My promise to the people of Newton County is to ensure that every student in Newton County receives the best possible education. I am looking forward to the opportunity to serve the families of this community in this capacity and build on the successes we know as Newton County.”
Ms. Sibley was appointed to her assistant superintendent post in July of 2023. Prior to this appointment, she served the NCSD as Director of Exceptional Students and Accountability, a role she assumed in 2013. Ms. Sibley worked as a principal in the Choctaw Tribal Schools from 2009-2013. Her career in education began in 2002 as a teacher in the Newton County School District.
During Brooke Sibley’s tenure as a Director in NCSD:

● Has increased career and technical offerings
● Has increased graduation rates from 86% to 93%
● Has increased student proficiency across the district
Ms. Sibley is a 2000 graduate of Mississippi State University where she received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She completed master’s and specialist degrees in education at Mississippi State University, and earned her administrator credential in 2008. Sibley is currently pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership at the University of Southern Mississippi. She has completed the Mississippi School Boards Association’s Prospective Superintendent Leadership Academy, the PREPS CEO Academy, and the National Institute for School Leadership training program.
Sibley is a member of Mississippi Professional Educators, the Mississippi Association of School Superintendents, and the Council of Administrators of Special Education.
Ms. Sibley has two children who are NCSD graduates: Anna McLeod (2018), who is married to Colin McLeod; Meredith Rose Sibley (2022); and one grandson, Knox.
