The Newton Municipal School District Board of Trustees approved its $17.63 spending budget for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
The district is requesting the county levee taxes to collect $3.09 million for operations and $341,313.61 for debt service. That would mean the district’s is asking for the maximum local millage of 55 mills for operations, 2.4 mills for debt service and an additional 4.03 mills to cover the shortfall note.
In other business, the board approved the Young Law Firm to verify the numbers for the ad valorem.
The board also hired five certified employees and three classified employees, approved athletic supplements and held a brief executive session for personnel job performance. No action was taken.
