Randall Lee announced his candidacy for Board of Alderman-Ward 2 in the town of Union. The election is scheduled for Tuesday, April 1.
In making the announcement, Lee said, "When my wife Michelle and I retired from ECCC, we searched far and wide for a place to call home and chose the wonderful town of Union! The reason I am running for Alderman - Ward 2 is to help the town improve. I believe I have the experience, work ethic, and determination to do that. As a retiree I have more free time, and I see many opportunities to assist the town, schools, and businesses progress. Union is known for its top-rated schools, but we also have a unique situation for a small town of having a hospital and other accessible healthcare facilities.”
Lee had a long career in college administration serving 28 years as a college administrator supervising functional areas that are very similar to the responsibilities required for an alderman. A few of those areas are overseeing law enforcement, operating complex budgets, and managing libraries and advanced technology enhancements. Additionally, Lee has experience in upper-level grant writing, athletics, community outreach, FEMA and Homeland Security certification, recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of employees, meeting government accreditation standards, and most significantly, 28 years of working closely with Boards of Trustees similar to the Union Board of Alderman. Lee had an even longer military career lasting 36 years, and it included 12 years in the Army National Guard, 9 years of active duty to include a deployment to the Middle East war, and 15 years in the federal Army Reserves retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel - Deputy Commander of the 1st Medical Brigade in Birmingham. He also served as a company commander in the 82nd Airborne Division and conducted training and leading troops throughout the world succeeding on positions of increasing responsibility leading, budgeting, and supporting 1000s of soldiers.
Lee said, “Union is a safe town, and we need to keep it that way. For 26 years I directly supervised and collaborated with law enforcement providing them with the tools and resources to do an effective job. That must always be a priority!”
Lee is a committed member of Beulah Baptist Church serving in several positions including as a teacher and deacon. He also serves in Christian organizations as a volunteer speaker, short-term overseas and local ministry work, and as vice president and president of a state association with over 2,500 volunteers.
Lee said, "Unless the Lord changes my plans, I will live and die here in Union, and I want the best for my wife Michelle, children, Alexander and Rachel Lee, and four grandchildren, Henry (10), Levi (6), Stella Rae (4), and Helen (4 months)!" “My father, recently deceased Gene Lee, was the ‘Papaw’ of the Piggly Wiggly, who worked there until age 84, and my Mom, Carol Lee, was a nurse at Hilltop Manor and Laird’s Hospital most of her career.
Lee stated, "It would be my honor to serve the citizens of Union-Ward 2 as your Alderman. I am asking for your consideration and prayers. I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you. Please let me know of any suggestions you may have about improving the town and especially Ward 2. May God bless you and yours!
