Year two of the Jeffrey Crosby era got under way at Newton last week as the Tigers traveled to Jackson for a preseason jamboree.
The Tigers scrimmaged St. Andrew’s and Forest on Friday. The Tigers lost 6-0 to Forest and beat St. Andrew’s 2-0.
“I thought it went well,” Crosby said. “I thought we were real competitive. We are still working on some small details. We didn’t have many penalties. We ended up scoring against St. Andrew’s but had a penalty. We fumbled at the 1-yard line but got a safety and beat them 2-0. I thought our defense played really well.”
Crosby said he was encouraged by the team’s performance.
“It looks like we are going in the right direction,” Crosby said. “We had to see what out offense looked like against somebody else and now we will see what it looks like against Choctaw Central. I think it’s going to come down to who is in better shape. I think we are getting more focused and attacking the small details in the run game. We throw a pass or two just to keep them honest. We just have to continue to play sound defense and make tackles and good things will happen.”
