The Union Lady Yellowjackets continued their strong play as they won their seventh straight game and 13th out of 14 with a two-game sweep of Calhoun City on Thursday.
Union won 12-2 in the first game and 12-1 in the second contest to sweep the series.
Union improves to 20-10 on the season and will face East Union in third-round action. Game 1 is set for Thursday at Union at 6:30 p.m. while game 2 will be Friday at 6 p.m. at East Union. The if-necessary game would be Saturday at 6 p.m. back in Union.
Union 12, Calhoun City 2
The Lady Yellowjackets allowed just four hits and rolled to a run-rule win over the Lady Wildcats on Thursday.
Union scored one in the first and second, two in the third, five in the fourth and three in the sixth.
Union had 14 its in the contest, led by Abigail Cleveland who was 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Raleigh Dickerson was 3-for-4. Tiara Campbell was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs while Destiny Moulds was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Aspen Lovern was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Maggie Davis homered and drove in two runs.
Alanee Wheeler started in the circle and pitched the first four innings, giving up one run on two hits while striking out seven. Aubrey Coleman pitched the next two innings and gave up one run on two hits.
Union 12, Calhoun City 1
The Lady Yellowjackets used a pair of five-run innings and took a five-inning, run-rule win over the Lady Wildcats to sweep the series.
Union scored five in the first and third innings and finished with two in the fourth to take the win.
The Lady Yellowjackets had nine hits and took advantage of three errors, three hit batters and two walks. Destiny Moulds was 3-for-3 with a double, triple and three runs scored while Tiara Campbell was 3-for-3 with double and three RBIs. Maggie Davis doubled and drove in two runs while Raleigh Dickerson singled and had two RBIs. LaCee Bishop and Alanee Wheeler each scored two runs apiece for Union.
Dickerson started in the circle and pitched four innings to get the win, giving upon hit and two walks while striking out two. Abigail Cleveland pitched the final inning and gave up one run on three hits and struck out two.
