The Lake baseball team saw its season come to an unexpected end on Monday.
The Hornets gave up six runs in the bottom of the seventh on Saturday and lost a 7-6 contest to Pisgah. The Dragons then finished off the series with a 14-3 win on Monday to finish off the Class 2A second-round playoff series.
Lake finishes the season with a 25-7 record.
Pisgah 7, Lake 6
The Dragons scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a walk-off win over the Hornets on Saturday in the first game of the series.
Lake scored one in the first and third and then added three in the fifth and led 5-0. Pisgah scored one in the sixth and Lake added another run in the top of the seventh to lead 6-1. But Pisgah had three singles, two hit batters and took advantage of two errors to take the win.
Lake had eight hits as Gavin Boles was 2-for-4 with two R Is. Kasen Tune doubled and scored two runs while Trey Gray ripped and scored two runs.
Tune pitched 6 1/3 innings and gave up seven runs with just three earned on 10 hits and three walks while striking out three.
Pisgah 14, Lake 3
The Dragons started fast and took a five-inning, run-rule win over the Hornets to sweep the series on Monday.
Pisgah scored four in the first while Lake scored one in the bottom of the first. Pisgah then scored five in the third, three in the fourth and two in the top of the fifth. Lake sword two in the bottom of the fifth for the final margin.
Lake had five hits in the contest, led by J.D. Gibson, who was 2-for-3. Gavin Boles and Trey Grey each doubled and scored.
Wyatt Bell started on the mound and pitched three innings, giving up 10 runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out five. Wes Nester pitched the last two innings and gave up four runs on two hits.
