The Liberty Community Club met on Monday, August 14, which was a very hot night with temperatures in the 100’s. Katherine Goodin and Treyton Harris led our group in the Pledge of Allegiance. After a delicious supper of sandwiches and chips, plus Key Lime pie, Lemon pie, and Blueberry cobbler served by Amy Norman and Korby Mann, we had Ruby Boutwell lead us in our devotion from Psalm 126:2. “Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.” Always have a laugh with people as you serve the Lord. Prayer requests include Mark Kilgore, Deborah Myers, Ray Boutwell, Joyce Johnson, Peggy Gaines, and O.C. Gressett.
Mike Dearing introduced Charles Godwin, Supervisor District 4, who is running for re-election. He is very concerned about the low voter turn-out in the prior election. We as Americans need to remember why the men and women fought and died for our freedom to vote. The Supervisors from Districts 1,3, and 5 have retired this year and District 2 supervisor was not re-elected in the primary. There may possibly be a whole new Board of Supervisors. Approximately 3900 people work and resided in Newton County while 4400 drive to Newton County to work. We need to remember the “Mom and Pop” shops in Newton and shop with our neighbors.
Our guests included Charles and Betty Godwin and their grandson Mason Savell. We had 23 members present. Our next meeting is September 11th with the 4-H Club. Come enjoy our potluck supper.
