The Union girls bowling team is headed back to state competition after the won the district championship this past week.
The girls will be competing in the state championship meet on Thursday in the Jackson area.
Josh Smith, head coach of the bowling team at Union High School, said they have made it to state all three years he has been there.
“They are such a great group of girls,” Smith said. “Several of them have competed before at state. We’re excited to be heading back there again this year.”
Smith said he works with his team to teach them how to roll the ball and to hit their marks.
“All I really do is just show them where to stand and how to hit their marks. And you get instant feedback in a sport like this. You see whether you did it right or you did something wrong.”
Smith said the boys had a great season as well, but they just fell short of making a return visit.
“They just missed making third place,” Smith said.
