Newton County and Lake split a pair of games this past week.
The Lady Hornets took a 44-41 win over the Lady Cougars while the Newton County boys beat Lake 62-55.
Newton County was swept by Neshoba Central as the girls fell 92-25 and the boys lost 60-47.
Lake will travel to Sebastopol on Tuesday and to Kemper County on Friday.
Newton County will host Leake Central on Tuesday and travel to Union on Friday.
Lake girls 44, Newton County 41
The Lady Hornets overcame an early deficit and took a hard-fought three-point win over the Lady Cougars last week.
Newton County led 16-12 at the end of the first period and each team scored 10 in the second for a 26-22 halftime advantage. Lake fought back in the third and outscored Newton County 12-6 to take a 34-32 lead going into the fourth. Lake then outscored County 10-9 in the fourth to hang on and take the win.
Laneisha Palm led Lake with 11 points while Kaliauna Jones had nine points and Tra’Shaylah Wilson had eight points.
Remini Nickey led Newton County with 10 points while Kelcei Thomas had nine points and Hannah McDougle added eight points.
Newton County boys 62, Lake 55
The Cougars overcame an early deficit and held on to take a seven-point win over the Hornets last Tuesday.
Lake led 15-10 at the end of the first beaver County outscored the Hornets 16-13 in the second to cut the lead to 28-26 at the half. Newton County had a big third period as they outscored Lake 26-12 to take a 52-40 lead into the fourth period. Lake outscored County 15-10 in the fourth for the final margin.
Newton County got 16 points from Keaton Gray to lead the way while Xay Clark had 12 points. Karen Warnsley had eight points while Sebastian Johnson had seven and Dominic Bell added six points.
Curly Robinson led Lake with 13 points while C.J. Gilstrap had 10 points. O’Darius Johnson had nine points and Antavious Robinson had eight points.
Neshoba Central girls 92, Newton County 25
The Lady Cougars were overmatched against one of the top teams in the state as the Lady Rockets took a 67-point win.
Neshoba led 26-7 at the end of the first period and then outscored Newton County 39-6 in the second to lead 65-13 at the half. Neshoba continued to extend its lead in the second half, outscoring County 20-6 in the third and 11-6 in the fourth.
Hannah McDougle led Newton County with six points while Maeli Ben, Breeanna Anderson and Remini Nickey each had four points apiece.
Neshoba Central boys 60, Newton County 47
The Rockets got off to a fast start and held on to take a 13-point win over the Cougars.
Neshoba led 19-6 at the end of the first period and then outscored County 13-5 in the se cold to lead 32-11 at the half. Neshoba outscored County 14-12 in the third but the Cougars took the fourth period 24-14 for the final margin.
Keaton Gray led Newton County with 17 points while Cam Dukes and Zarius Johnson each had seven points apiece.
