The Newton County Academy girls picked up a pair of wins on the hardwood this past week while the Generals split a pair of games.
The Lady Generals hammered Wayne Academy 60-25 and then opened up district play with a 47-25 win over Kemper Academy.
NCA will get a short break this week as they travel to Patrician Academy in Butler, Ala., on Thursday. On Friday, NCA will return to district play on Friday as they host rival Sylva Bay.
NCA girls 47, Kemper 25
The Lady Generals used strong starts to each half and and took a 22-point win over the Lady Rams.
NCA jumped out to a 17-8 lead in the first period and led 29-21 at the half. The Lady Generals then outscored Kemper 10-0 in the third and 8-4 in the third to take the win.
Lilly Hollingsworth led NCA with 21 points while Cayden Alexander had nine points. Belle Hollingsworth and Emma Reese each had six points apiece.
NCA boys 54, Kemper 40
The Generals started strong and cruised to a 14-point win to open district play with a 14-point win over the Rams last week.
NCA dominated the first three periods as they led 14-6 at the end of the first and then outscored the Rams 19-9 in the second to lead 33-15 at the half. The Generals continued to extend its lead in the second half as they outscored Kemper 19-5 in the third to lead 52-20 going to the fourth. With NCA’s reserves in the game, the Rams outscored the Generals 20-2 in the fourth for the final margin.
Lawson Reeves led NCA with 20 points, six steals and five rebounds while Micheal Lee Buffington had a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds and five steals.
NCA girls 60, Wayne 25
The Lady Generals outscored the Lady Jaguars in every period and cruised to a 35-point win.
The Lady Generals dominated the first half as they outscored Wayne 24-9 in the first and 15-4 in the second to take a 39-13 lead at the half. The Lady Generals continued to extend the lead in the second half as they outscored the Lady Jaguars 13-7 in the third and 8-5 in the fourth.
Lilly Hollingsworth led a balanced scoring attack for NCA with 14 points while Macie Woodham had 12 points. Emme Reese had 10 points while Belle Hollingsworth had nine points. Addison Mathis had six points and Addie Bergeron had five points.
Wayne boys 53, NCA 36
The Jaguars opened up a double-digit lead in the first half and took a 17-point win over the Generals on Tuesday.
Wayne started fast as they led 17-7 at the end of the first. Both teams scored 15 points in the second as Wayne led 32-22 at the half. NCA outscored Wayne 10-9 in the third to cut the lead to 41-32 going to the fourth before the Jaguars outscored the Generals 12-4 in the fourth to take the win.
Lawson Reeves led NCA with 11 points and nine rebounds.
