The Newton County Academy girls picked up two more wins this past week.
The Lady Generals hammered Patrician Academy 62-19 on Thursday and then beat rival Sylva Bay 57-32 on Friday.
The Generals split a pair of games last week as they lost 56-31 to Patrician but then bounced back to beat Sylva Bay 32-24 to improve to 2-0 in district play.
NCA will return to action this week with a pair of district contests. On Tuesday, NCA will host Calhoun and will then host Kemper on Thursday for senior night. NCA will then finish out the regular season the following week as they travel to Sylva Bay on Tuesday, Jan. 25. They will finish the regular season on Friday, Jan. 28 at Calhoun Academy. The district tournament will be on Feb. 1 and 3 at Kemper Academy while NCA will host the Class 3A North State Tournament the following week.
NCA girls 57, Sylva Bay 32
The Lady Generals dominated early and took a 25-point win over the rival Lady Saints on Friday.
NCA led 13-7 at the end of the first but then exploded and outscored the Lady Saints 19-3 in the second to lead 32-10 at the half. NCA then outscored Sylva Bay 13-10 in the third and each team scored 10 points in the fourth for the final margin.
NCA used a balanced scoring attack to take the win as Lilly Hollingsworth led the Lady Generals with 14 points. Cayden Alexander had 13 points and Belle Hollingsworth had 12 points. Adde Bergeron and Emma Reese each chipped in six points apiece.
NCA boys 32, Sylva Bay 24
The Generals picked up their second district win last week with an eight-point win over the rival Saints.
Sylva Bay led 8-7 at the end of the first period before NCA outscored the Saints 7-2 in the second to lead 14-10 at the half. NCA then outscored Sylva Bay 8-6 in the third and 10-8 in the fourth to pull away and take the win.
Braxton Kelly led NCA with eight points while Micheal Lee Buffington had seven points and five rebounds. Lawson Reeves had six points and 10 rebounds.
NCA girls 62, Patrician 19
The Lady Generals started fast and dominated the first half to take a 43-point win over the Lady Saints.
NCA jumped out to a 21-2 lead in the first period and outscored Patrician 21-7 in the second to lead 42-9 at the half. NCA continued to extend its lead in the second half as they outscored Patrician 13-5 in the third and 7-5 in the fourth.
Lilly Hollingsworth led NCA with 16 points while Macie Woodham had 12 points. Cayden Alexander had 11 points while Belle Hollingsworth had nine points.
Patrician boys 56, NCA 31
The Saints outscored the Generals in every period and cruised to a 25-point win.
Patrician jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the first period and then outscored the Generals 12-6 in the second to lead 25-10 at the half. Patrician continued to extend its lead as they outscored NCA 15-10 in the second and 16-11 in the fourth.
Michael Lee Buffington led NCA with seven points.
