Update: Due to inclement weather, the annual July 3 fireworks display at Turkey Creek has been postponed until Sept. 4, 2020.
Newton County residents are invited to head to Turkey Creek Water Park for the third annual July 3 fireworks display.
On tap for the party are games, food and fun. The Decatur Volunteer Fire Department will begin selling pulled pork sandwiches from Cook’s Bar B Que, hot dogs, nachos and Mr. Mike’s Frozen Yogurt at 5 p.m., and face painting and the National Guard activities will return as well.
Park Manager Pam Engle said the first pyrotechnics will launch at 9 p.m. sharp. This year, she said, park gates will close at 8:30 p.m., which will cut down on people arriving during the show.
Park gates will open at 8 a.m., giving residents the opportunity to come enjoy a day in the park or on the lake before the celebration starts. Engle said residents are welcome to enjoy the show from the shore or bring a boat and watch from the water.
As with previous years, there will be a $10 per vehicle entry fee to watch the fireworks display. For those bringing a boat, an additional $10 fee will apply as well as a small boat launch fee.
The annual July 3 fireworks display draws hundreds to Turkey Creek, and with many Independence Day events postponed or cancelled, this year’s display could see even more.
