Correction: A previous version of this story stated the park would open at 7 p.m. That is incorrect. The park will be open throughout the day July 3. We regret this error and are happy to set the record straight.
Independence Day is less than two months away and Turkey Creek Park is looking for sponsors to help out with its annual fireworks show.
Park Manager Pam Engle said the Fourth of July celebration is always a big community event and always draws a large crowd.
This year’s celebration, Engle said, is set for July 3, with the fireworks starting at 9 p.m.
“We’ll allow boats to come in early and put lights on their boats,” she said. “Last year, we had people coming in from 7 p.m. all the way past when the fireworks started at 9 p.m.”
Fireworks, however, will not be the only attraction, Engle said. Decatur Volunteer Fire Department will be on hand offering a variety of snacks and goodies for visitors to munch on while they watch the show.
“The Fire Department will be here selling hot dogs and hamburgers, and this year, they’ll have Mr. Mike’s frozen yogurt,” she said.
Other activities, such as a bounce house and face painting are in the works, Engle said, but those plans are not confirmed quite yet.
Admission to the fireworks show will cost $10 per vehicle, Engle said. For residents wanting to view the show from the water, she said an additional boat-launch fee will be in place.
Engle said the park will be open all day, and residents are welcome to come relax and enjoy the park prior to the show. She said the fire department will begin selling hamburgers and hotdogs at 5 p.m.
The annual Turkey Creek Fireworks Show is a big undertaking, and Turkey Creek is asking local businesses, clubs and organizations to consider sponsoring this year’s event.
Three levels of sponsorship are available: Bronze, silver and gold.
Bronze sponsors, at $75, will receive a mention on the event banners and a be mentioned on the event’s Facebook page.
Silver sponsors, at $150, will receive a mention on the event banners, individual 2-foot by 2-foot banners with the sponsor’s logo and business name and a mention on the Facebook page.
Gold sponsors, at $250, will receive a mention on the event banners, individual 3-foot by 5-foot banners that will be displayed at Turkey Creek for at least two weeks, a mention on the event’s Facebook page, a mention on the Pat Harrison Waterway Facebook page and one free vehicle admission.
Engle said the deadline to become a sponsor is May 24, which will allow plenty of time to get the banners printed and put up. For more information, or to become a sponsor, contact Engle at 601-635-3314.
