The 2nd annual Veterans Auction benefitting the new Newton County Veterans Memorial Park and American Legion Hut restoration was held on Saturday night at the historic Hut.
The auction was presented by Mike Harris. The auction featured a wide array of items from antiques and guns to shop lights and bedding.
Newton County Veterans Service Officer and Post 89 Commander Johnny Reeves said they raised about $2,800 during the auction. He thought the event was awesome.
“We had a great turnout,” Reeves said. “We had lots of donations by people supporting the veterans.”
He wanted to thank everyone involved with the event that helped make it successful as they continue both projects.
“It was a combined effort between Post 173 from Hickory, and Post 89 from Decatur,” Reeves said.
