Bedford Care Center of Newton was recognized Friday for raising the most money of any team for the Meridian Walk4ALZ in 2016.
TJ Harvey of Alzheimer’s Mississippi presented the team with a plaque for their efforts during the Newton County Walk4ALZ kickoff event at Bedford Newton on Friday.
The team raised $3,500 for the Walk4ALZ, which benefits Alzheimer’s Mississippi. Harvey said all of the money raised will stay here in Mississippi.
“The money will be used for funding grants, support groups and other projects related to Alzheimer’s here in Mississippi,” Harvey said. “We appreciate the support that Bedford Care Center of Newton has shown over the years.”
This was the sixth time Bedford Newton has taken home the top honors at the Walk4ALZ.
Calah Pittman, activity director at Bedford Care Center of Newton, said the organization has been near and dear to her heart because they work with residents who live with Alzheimer’s.
“We are very excited about raising money for Alzheimer’s of Mississippi because the money stays in Mississippi,” Pittman said. “It is especially dear to us because here at Bedford Care Center of Newton, we now have our very own specialized memory care unit, The Courtyard.”
Team leader Angie Rowzee said they are prepared to participate again with the walk on Oct. 7 at Meridian’s Bonita Lakes.
“It’s our goal to once again be the top team at the Walk4ALZ,” Rowzee said. “Our theme this year is Knockout Alzheimer’s.”
