The Newton Chamber of Commerce hosted a meet-and-greet event Thursday to thank members and welcome new businesses to the area.
Chamber executive director Emily Pugh said the rain affected the turnout, but she was pleased with the turnout under the circumstances.
“We had about 25 to 30 chamber members come by and visit with us,” Pugh said. “I think the weather had an effect on our attendance, and this was already rescheduled once before due to the threat of severe weather. So, I think it still went well under the circumstances.”
Pugh said the chamber hosts meet-and-greet events twice a year, once in the springtime and another in the fall. And the chamber also hosts a couple of other community engagement meetings throughout the year.
“We normally have at least an event like this once a quarter,” Pugh said. “It’s a way for chamber members to come out and network with each other.”
The chamber is coming off another successful Loose Caboose Arts and Crafts Festival in March, and Pugh said they are turning their attention toward the annual meeting and banquet, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, June 6.
She said tickets will go on sale during the second week of May. Entertainment and guest speakers will be announced at a later time.
One other event on the horizon is an end of the summer concert. Pugh said they are still in the preliminary planning stages of the concert.
“We have a lot going on,” Pugh said. “If you are interested in the chamber, you are welcome to contact me or to find out more on our website.”
