An election to choose the next alderman for the Town of Chunky has been cancelled due to a shortage of candidates. The seat on the 5-alderperson board came open after Jacky Johnson was elected to replace Glenn Hollingsworth as Beat 5 County Supervisor.
Town Clerk Joyce Reynolds said candidates interested in running for aldermen were required by law to file candidacy paperwork at least 20 days prior to the election, which was set for February 11.
“That time has come and passed, and we do not have anyone that has qualified,” she said.
With no candidates running, Reynolds said the election would not be held. Instead, she said, Mayor Aaron Clark and the remaining four aldermen would appoint the next aldermen.
“We’ll have to appoint one when we find someone willing,” she said.
