The Newton Municipal School District has implemented a new Teacher Support Program that will help new teachers receive mentoring and help them deal with the difficulties of being a new teacher.
The program was kicked off with a breakfast sponsored by Dr. Harris Dental Service for all new teachers to the Newton Municipal School District.
School Superintendent Nola Bryant said the New Teacher Support Program is designed to assist and guide new teachers to become great teachers.
“When a new teacher comes to a school district, the transition can be difficult for them,” Bryant said. “So this is an opportunity for them to talk about issues that they’re having and to learn from other teachers about how to be a good teacher.”
One goal of the program is to build teacher capacity and empowerment. Bryant will hold a one-hour breakfast session monthly to discuss best practices, classroom management and data feedback. Teachers are assigned mentors on each local campus for the school year.
The following programs have also been implemented:
• Superintendent’s Teacher Pick of the Month,
• Superintendent’s Student Advisory Patrol,
• Academic /Accomplishment /Attendance - Triple AAA, and
• Dress to Impress.
