The Newton Municipal School District donated $4,823.25 to the Anderson Cancer Center’s Benevolence Fund on Friday.
School Superintendent Nola Bryant said that the majority of the money was raised during the month of September and October. And the largest portion of the fundraising was executed by Newton Elementary School.
“They did all kinds of fundraisers throughout the year,” Bryant said. “Newton Elementary had jeans days, sold pink T-shirts and held its annual Pink Walk, where everyone paid $1 to walk in the parade that day. They did a Pennies for Cancer drive and so much more.”
Ginny Ruffin, representative from the Anderson Cancer Center, received the check from NMSD on Friday. She said she is grateful for the donation.
“One hundred percent of the funding will go to help local patients,” said Ruffin, who also said the organization isn’t affiliated with the American Cancer Society.
