As the football season starts coming to an end, this week’s slate of games will go a long ways to determining playoff position for local teams.
Here’s a look at this week’s games:
Newton County at Northeast Jones
The Cougars will travel to Northeast Jones on Friday night in a battle of 1-1 division teams.
Northeast Jones is 5-2 on the season with wins over Northeast Lauderdale (27-0), Perry Central (26-6), South Jones (27-6), East Marion (25-6) and Richland (38-20). Their losses are to West Jones (28-2) and Quitman (26-14).
“They are 1-1 in the district, just like us,” Newton County coach Bobby Bass said. “They are a straight Wing-T team and it’s their second year doing it. They threw it two times last week. They are running it a lot better which is typical of teams transitioning to the Wing-T. They don’t throw it a lot but when they do, it’s usually wide open. It’s going to be a lot of eye discipline on our part. We have to focus on doing our job and execute on every play. When we focus on every play, we are pretty good.”
