Calvary Baptist Church is getting a new look.
The congregation in Newton has been getting a makeover of its branding, including its logo and church signage, while new Pastor Ryan Smith delivers messages to make sure the church understands what its identity is.
This summer, Smith preached a sermon series on the “Seven Identities of Our Church” to emphasize the church’s vision for the future. Some of the topics include having a heart for worship, speaking love and praying continually.
“It’s very important for our church going forward that we have one vision,” Smith said. “We are working to make sure that our foundation is strong as a church.”
Calvary Baptist Church is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. They meet on Sundays at 9:15 a.m. for Sunday school and 10:30 a.m. for morning worship and at 6 p.m. for evening worship. They also meet on Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
Smith believes that his church can be a “hospital” for those who are hurting.
“We want to be a refuge for those who are hurting and to be place where we can meet the people’s needs,” Smith said. “That’s what we want our identity to be.”
As the church builds a firm foundation on the Word of God, Smith believes the church will be poised to meet the needs of the community.
Smith also said the church is seeking musicians for its worship band.
Calvary Baptist Church is located at 1110 Ford Ave. in Newton.
