Decatur Police and Fire departments may soon have brand new American Flags flying thanks to a donation from the Woodmen Life investment group.
Newton-based Chapter 624 of Woodmen donated 20 new flags Tuesday as part of the group’s community outreach programs.
Felica Blackburn, who represents the investment group in Newton County, said chapters take on social projects to give back to their communities. Chapter 624, she said, donates flags to non-profits throughout the county.
“We take part out into the community, and we’ve done a lot of projects throughout the years,” she said.
In addition to Decatur, she said Chapter 624 has also donated flags to the Boy Scouts and several schools.
After Blackburn presented, Aldermen Phil Sutphin called for the board to recognized Woodmen Life for its donation.
“I’d like for us to go on record commending the Woodmen of the world for the donation of the flags to the town,” Sutphin said. “I’d like to put that in the form of an official motion to express our appreciation for that.”
The other Aldermen agreed and passed a unanimous vote recognizing Woodmen for its actions.
