The Newton Municipal School Board has hired Nola Bryant to lead the school district replacing current superintendent, Virginia Young, who is stepping down at the end of this month.
Bryant is the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and Assistant to Superintendent of the Louisville School District. She has over 25 years experience in the education field. She and her husband have three children.
She received her Doctor of Philosophy in Education from Mississippi State University with a major in curriculum and instruction and a minor in elementary administration and supervision.
She also achieved a specialist in education leadership, a Master of Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Science with Honors (Cum Laude) all from Mississippi State. She is also a graduate of Wood Junior College in Mathison.
She has previously served as West Lowndes Elementary principal from 2001 to 2005 and has been an assistant principal at Fair Elementary, an adjunct professor at MSU and a teacher-in-residence for Mississippi State Writing/Thinking Institute.
She also serves on the Mississippi Association of Elementary School Administrators, State Zone Director Counties (Winston, Webster, Oktibbeha, Lowndes, Clay, and Attala), Lowndes County School District Discipline Committee Member and the Mississippi Association of School Administrators.
She also serves on the Legislature Committee (Representative), Membership Committee Winston County /(Chairperson), Winston County Association of Educators /(President) and the Mississippi Black Caucus (Secretary) for the Mississippi Association of Educators.
With the Louisville Municipal School District, she also had Leadership Assignments including District Accreditation AdvancED /SACS/CASI (Chair Person), Superintendent Advisory Committee, District Safety Committee, Textbooks Adoption Committee, Align Elementary School Curriculum Committee K-3, Budget Chairperson of Title IV, Develop and Constructed Pacing Guides (K-12), Coordinator of DropOut Prevention Program, Coordinator of District Mentor / Novice Teacher Program, District Testing Coordinator, District Coordinator for Teachers’ Highly Qualified Plan(LEA) / Policy and District Discipline Committee Chair/SACS Review Team Committee.
