Motocross fans will delight as race five of the Mississippi Motocross Championship Series is coming to Lake this weekend.
Beginning Friday afternoon, over 100 cyclists are expected to arrive and begin preparations for the championship race Sunday.
Shannon Harmon, who is organizing the race, said Lake MX is honored to host the event as there are only three tracks in the state that meet the series’ qualifications.
“This’ll be race five of the championship series,” he said. “They do races at different tracks, but there’s only three tracks in the series.”
The weekend-long event, Harmon said, is a great time for both spectators and racers. Competitors will arrive Friday to prepare, he said. Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., riders will have a chance to practice the course and make a plan for race day, and Sunday morning, 8-10 a.m., riders will have the chance to get some last-minute practice in before the official race.
“My race’ll be Nov. 11,” he said. “It’ll be racing from 10 a.m. until we’re through.”
Harmon said he expects a fast, fun race with around 100 riders participating, which, he said, will be a great show that spectators are sure to enjoy.
Admission to the event costs $10, Harmon said. Children under 4 and seniors, age 65 and older, get in free. All tickets are purchased at the gate on race day, he said.
Concessions will be available for those looking for a snack, but spectators are also invited to pack a lunch or bring something to drink. Coolers are allowed, Harmon said.
For those with kids or just looking for a fun way to pass the weekend, Harmon said Lake MX is going to be the place to be this weekend. MMCS round five is sure to be something to see, he said.
“It’ll be a good family event,” he said
