Tabb earns degree from Alabama
Brittany Monique Tabb of Hickory received a Master of Social Work degree from The University of Alabama during spring commencement exercises May 3-5.

The Summer II (July) Term begins Monday and ends Thursday, July 25. The last day to register is Tuesday. Courses offered in Decatur include principles of biology II with lab, general chemistry II with lab, creative arts for young children, intermediate English, English composition I and II, fitness and conditioning training, baseball theory, fitness and conditioning training III, intermediate algebra, college algebra, physical science survey II with lab, general physics II with lab and social problems.

Newton County to receive nearly $2k
Mississippi will receive $2.16 million in Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) payments for 2019.
The FY2019 PILT payments going to 72 Mississippi counties range in value from $245,653 for Lafayette County to $111 for Noxubee County. Newton County is set to receive $1,987.
The payments are issued by the U.S. Department of the Interior to counties with tax-exempt, federally-owned lands, water projects, and some military installations.
The PILT program is administered by the Office of the Secretary of the Interior. The payments, which vary from year to year, are issued using a formula based on population, revenue-sharing payments, and the amount of federal land in a county.
Joe McGee receives construction bid
The Mississippi Transportation Commission at its June 11 meeting awarded contracts for maintenance projects throughout Mississippi.
A nearly $9.7 million contract was awarded to Joe McGee Construction Company, Inc., of Lake for bridge replacements on State Route 3 from the Panola County line to the Tunica County line in Tate County.
A $1.3 million contract was awarded to Dickerson and Bowen, Inc., for approximately one mile of mill and overlay on State Route 878 through Walnut Grove, and two miles on State Route 492 through Walnut Grove in Leake County.
USDA program to eradicate, control feral swine
USDA will offer $75 million in funding for the eradication and control of feral swine through the Feral Swine Eradication and Control Pilot Program in a joint effort with USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
The funding limit for a single award is $1.5 million. Awardees will be required to provide at least 25 percent of the partnership agreement budget as a match to NRCS funding.

Dental school opens new student technology center
JACKSON – The School of Dentistry at the University of Mississippi Medical Center is one of only four schools in the nation with a technology center featuring the latest and best dental equipment for student training funded by a national organization established to do just that.
The school was chosen in 2017 by the Center for Research & Education in Technology, Inc. to host the Regions CRET Innovation Suite, a high-tech clinic featuring six state-of-the-art dental treatment rooms and two dental hygiene treatment rooms with equipment donated by more than 26 different dental manufacturers.
The clinic, which is designed to simulate a private practice dental office, also includes an innovative new sterilization center, two cone beam computerized X-ray machines, digital dental impression capabilities, 3-D printers, a laser room and the capability to design and mill dental prostheses.
