A couple of churches in Newton County took time Saturday to participate in the United Methodist Church’s Mission Day 2019.
At Newton United Methodist Church, members volunteered at Hope Missions Thrift Store in Newton Saturday, May 4. While volunteering with the nonprofit organization that helps reach out to the community, church members also donated items that could be sold in the store.
Juston Dean, a member at Newton United Methodist Church, said they had a good turnout to help.
“There were 11 volunteers from our church helping for a total of 44 hours helping the Hope Mission of Newton,” Dean said. “Over 40 United Methodist Churches in our MS conference took part in the 2019 Day of Missions”
Just up the road, Decatur United Methodist Church spent a couple of hours volunteering their service to clean up Decatur. A volunteer team spent just under two hours collecting trash along city roadways to clean up the city.
