The Union Lady Yellowjackets opened the slow-pitch softball season with a pair of losses.
The Lady Jackets lost 14-0 to Neshoba Central and 15-11 to West Lauderdale at the Newton County Classic on Saturday.
Union will look to grab its first win of the season this week as they host Lake on Monday and travel to Forest on Tuesday. The Lady Jackets host Ethel on Thursday and will host Leake County on Saturday.
Neshoba Central 14, Union 0
Five-time defending state champion Neshoba Central outhit the Lady Yellowjackets 18-3 to take a run-rule victory on Saturday at Newton County.
Neshoba scored four runs in the first, six in the second and two in the third and fourth innings.
Union had three hits in the contest as DaShayla Jackson had a double. Kayleigh Vance and Ansley Rigby also had singles.
Rigby pitched four innings and gave up 18 hits and 10 earned runs while allowing two home runs.
West Lauderdale 15, Union 11
The Lady Jackets finally got the bats going but a nine-running inning by West Lauderdale propelled the Lady Knights to victory.
West led 2-0 after two innings before Union scored seven runs in the third inning. After a run in the third, West scored nine in the fourth and three in the fifth. Union added four runs over the last three innings but couldn’t complete the comeback.
Union had 15 hits as Kayleigh Vance was 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs. Ansley Rigby was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Kaydon Lee was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Jordan Turner was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Abbie Jenkins was 2-for-4 while Dallas Brown scored twice.
