A woman is in ICU after she was shot by a man early Monday morning in the Lawrence community of Newton County.
Newton County Sheriff Jackie Knight said the woman, who was identified as Latrina Patrick in media reports, received a gunshot to the “temple” of her forehead. She was taken via medical transport helicopter to University Medical Center in Jackson, where he said she was being kept in the intensive care unit.
Knight said Maurice Osborne Sr. was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic assault. He was in the Newton County Jail on Monday night awaiting a bond hearing with a judge.
Although the victim faced life-threatening injuries, Knight said she was showing signs of making a recovery.
“They removed the bullet from her skull and brain,” Knight said. “She was up walking around this afternoon. That surprised me.”
Knight said the victim has a 5-year-old child who was not injured in the incident.
Aggravated domestic assault is a felony charge.
