Boys fall in three games over last week
The Newton County Academy girls won two out of three games this past week.
The Lady Generals hammered Russell Christian 54-20 on Monday and then beat Prentiss 50-10 on Tuesday. NCA ended the week with a 25-22 loss to Lamar Christian.
The NCA boys lost all three games last week, falling 64-52 to Russell, 65-34 to Prentiss and 55-23 to Lamar Christian.
NCA has two games scheduled this week as they will host Discovery Christian on Thursday and Laurel Christian on Friday.
NCA girls 54, Russell Chr. 20
The Lady Generals dominated early and cruised to a 34-point win against the Lady Warriors.
NCA jumped out to a 16-7 lead in the first period and then outscored Russell 20-2 in the second to lead 36-9 at the half. NCA continued to extend its lead in the third period, outscoring Russell 16-5 in the third to lead 52-14 to get the clock running. Russell took the fourth period 6-2 for the final margin.
Ayden McDill led NCA with 11 points while Piper Collins had nine points. Macie Woodham and Lillian Nutt each had eight points while Addison Mathis and Sydnee Cosgrove each had six points apiece.
Russell Chr. boys 64, NCA 52
The Warriors built an early lead and held on to take a 12-point win over the Generals on Monday.
Russell jumped out to a 21-15 lead in the first period and 13-11 in the second to lead 34-26 at the half. Russell pulled away in the third period as they outscored NCA 20-11 to lead 54-37 going to the fourth. The Generals outscored the Warriors 15-10 in the fourth for the final margin.
Cooper Savell led NCA with 16 points while Noah Agent and Jeff Krantz each had nine points.
NCA girls 50, Prentiss Christian 10
The Lady Generals outscored the Lady Saints in every period and cruised to a 40-point win on Tuesday.
NCA jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the first period and then outscored Prentiss 15-0 in the second to lead 27-3 at the half. NCA continued to dominate the game in the second half, outscoring Prentiss 15-5 in the third and 8-2 in the fourth.
Sydnee Cosgrove led NCA with 12 points while Macie Woodham and Addie Bergeron each had 10 points apiece. Piper Collins also chipped in eight points.
Prentiss Christian boys 65, NCA 34
The Saints pulled away in the second half and took a 31-point win over the Generals.
The game was tight in the first half as Prentiss led 21-17 at the end of the first. Each team scored 10 points in the second period. Prentiss then outscored NCA 22-4 in the third and 12-3 in the third to take the win.
Noah Agent led NCA with 13 points.
Lamar Christian 25, NCA 22
The Lady Generals weren’t able to come back from a first-half deficit in a low-scoring affair.
Lamar led 8-6 at the end of the first period and then outscored NCA 7-3 in the second to lead 15-9 at the half. NCA came back and outscored Lamar 5-2 in the third to cut the score to 17-14 and each team scored eight points in the fourth for the final margin.
Macie Woodham and Piper Collins each scored nine points apiece for NCA.
Lamar Christian boys 55, NCA 23
Lamar Christian started fast and cruised to a 32-point win over the Generals.
Lamar Christian outscored NCA 23-7 in the first and 13-3 in the second to lead 36-10 at the half. Lamar Christian then outscored NCA 12-7 in the third and 7-6 in the fourth.
Noah Agent led NCA with eight points.
