Both Newton County Academy basketball teams ended their seasons in the first round of the Class 2A state tournament last week.
The Generals’ season ended on Wednesday as they fell to Greenville St. Joseph, 62-39
St. Joe outscored NCA in every period as the Irish led 14-5 at the end of the first and 29-12 at the half. St. Joe continued to extend its lead in the second half as they outscored NCA 21-9 in the third and 12-8 in the fourth.
Austin Upton led NCA with nine points. The Generals finish the season with a 17-11 record.
The NCA girls season also came to an end as they fell 72-36 to Greenville Christian on Wednesday as well.
Greenville led 20-12 at the end of the first period and 42-21 at the half. Greenville put the game away in the third, outscoring NCA 24-6 to lead 66-26 going to the fourth.
Lilly Hollingsworth led NCA with 17 points and six rebounds while Cayden Alexander had 12 points and four rebounds.
